Skiing on the Internet

These are links to sites that I think are fun and/or useful. There are hundreds, probably thousands, of skiing sites on the web. Finding them is the fun bit, especially when you happen on one which you find particularly attractive or useful. All these sites have heaps of links to other sites, if you want more.

Epicski This is my favourite US site. It is based on the discussion forums run there, where there is a large and growing community of people from all over the world. There is a large number of forums, I hang out most in the Ski Instruction and Technique forum, where you meet some of the most august names in the US ski industry. If you have any questions about skiing, you will be stunned at the volume and high quality of information you get from this forum. There are also lots of general ski talk forums, gear forums (inhabited by heavy-hitters in the gear industry), travel, socialising, jokes… Epicski has pioneered holding ski instruction events that are open to all comers, and we are hoping to expand this. This site is carefully moderated, aggression and abuse are not tolerated, so it's mostly polite and positive.

First Tracks This is an online magazine run by Marc Guido. The amount of info here is staggering, and growing . It's a very friendly site, with a minimum of commerciality.

RSA Moderated This is a newsgroup, not part of the web but part of Usenet. This group is an offshoot of the older rec.skiing.alpine, which has sadly gone the way of many newsgroups with fighting and abuse. The moderated group has none of that, and is a useful place to link up with other skiiers and talk skiing.

Paula's This is a privately run ski discussion forum. Paula moderates it carefully, so there's an absence of unpleasantness. It is a smaller site than Epicski.

PowderMag This is part of a print magazine, and the forums are popular, however they proudly advertise that there are no rules, no moderation and anything goes. So there you will find attitude and bad language! It is very lively however, and there are also good gear archives and articles.

PSIA The offical website of the Professonal Ski Instructors of America association.

Stockli Good skis! This is the US site.

Goski A long running site, a worldwide guide to resorts everywhere. You can submit your own reviews of places you've skiied and read those of others.

You Can Ski Some useful tips on race technique and other related topics.

RSN Brilliant site for people watching US resorts. Cams and reports daily; you can customise your view to show the resorts you are interested in.

Chester's Site Colorado skiing by a local who is determined to do his bit for accuracy in snow reporting. Good resource for people skiing Colorado.

Ski Press World This is a whole magazine available online, you actually turn the pages, and read the entire lot. There are gear reviews and the other useful things you find in magazines.

Seth Masia Seth wrote "the" book on ski tuning, plus he has some other publications and sites, and info available.

Ski Like a Woman This is a really good site for ladies embarking on skiing for the first time, or looking to improve. Some great discussions of some common threads and problems, with resources to help, suggestions and general backup.

Teachski Laurie's site about the nostalgic aspects of North Eastern US skiing.
